Dr. Cody Doyle is a Roanoke and Trophy Club chiropractor with more than two decades of experience in managing chronic pain in patients of all ages. At your first visit, he’ll want to talk with you, so expect an initial in-depth consultation and exam. Dr. Doyle will then recommend a treatment plan with various pain-targeting strategies. He’ll answer all your questions and explain why he suggests your treatment plan, which may include chiropractic, acupuncture, cupping, muscle stim, and other therapies, depending upon your case.
If your chronic pain is concentrated in one area such as the back or neck, electrical muscle stimulation, or muscle stim, may be a part of your treatment plan. Through pads placed on your body, electrical pulses target specific muscle groups. You will tell us what level of stimulation you want, as we increase or decrease settings. Muscle stim should not be painful. The controlled bursts of electrical stimulation will trigger your body’s endorphins to do their pain-relieving job naturally.
Endorphins are natural neurotransmitters that reduce pain and promote healing. Dr. Doyle may recommend muscle stim to treat sprains or injury-based pain and swelling, to soothe affected muscles. He sometimes suggests muscle stim for soft tissue around the spine to reduce work-related lower back pain.
Focusing on energy flow and nerve stimulation to ease pain, acupuncture relies on placing thin needles into key points throughout the body. Much like muscle stim, acupuncture switches on your body’s natural approach to easing pain. Dr. Doyle may recommend acupuncture for a variety of chronic pain issues, including osteoarthritis, migraines, joint pain, and back pain.
The ancient method of cupping relies on concentrated suction to bring soothing blood flow and warmth to aching muscles. By focusing your body’s bloodstream to circulate toward constantly aching regions of the back, Dr. Doyle can ease chronic pain that has settled into stiff, inactive muscle tissue.
Treatment for chronic pain treatment doesn’t end at Dr. Doyle’s office. Your treatment plan may involve visits every few days, weekly, or monthly. Treatments may be more frequent at first, then taper off as Dr. Doyle sees improvements. Along with the in-office treatment plan, you may also be required to perform certain stretches and exercises at home.
We often provide printed instructions for patients to use at home. The exercises are specifically designed to improve range of motion, encourage healing, and reduce pain. Leg and arm stretching can enhance flexibility in stiff joints. They can help patients manage the persistent pain of arthritis and other conditions. Performed regularly, certain exercises can stimulate weight-bearing lumbar discs to help reduce lower back aches, and workouts designed to regain muscle strength speed healing of injured muscles.
Natural medicine helps the body heal, rather than just masking pain. If you suffer from chronic pain and want to avoid using NSAIDs and opioids for relief, schedule your appointment to receive a customized treatment plan that’s entirely drug-free. Dr. Doyle provides a wide range of therapies – more than are covered in this article – so call today: 817-767-5430.
