Will Acupuncture Help?

Used by over 14 million Americans, acupuncture is known to be a highly effective form of pain management. In some cases, it is more efficient than pain-relieving drugs or surgery. Acupuncture is one of the oldest healing arts in the world. This ancient Chinese practice stimulates nerves and trigger-points in the body while easing pressure on painful areas. The body’s sensation of pain is suppressed as the stimulated nerves release endorphins. Acupuncture therapy can reduce pain, inflammation, stiffness, and muscle spasms, among other things.

I Hate Needles! Can We Skip the Acupuncture?

Posted on 03.2.18 |

Keller, TX chiropractic and acupunctureIn our practice, we’ve found acupuncture to be an excellent complement to chiropractic care, especially with pain management. We don’t recommend it with everyone, but it can be an excellent resource for making primary treatment more effective.

We occasionally get a patient with the question from above, and we get it! We understand if needles turn you off.  It may seem strange if you’ve never done it before, or maybe you just fear/hate getting injections. The good news is that acupuncture needles are nothing like the needles used for injections, vaccinations, or IVs. They are much thinner and do not cause the “little stick” of pain common to medical injections.

Are you in pain, despite medical interventions? Dr. Cody Doyle can help you heal your body and regain your full range of function. For Keller, TX chiropractic and acupuncture treatment, call us at 817-767-5430 to schedule a consultation.

Acupuncture Really Does Work!

Acupuncture is an interesting treatment because we don’t fully understand how it works. In its country of origin, traditional Chinese medicine theorizes it balances the flow of energy (what they call qi). It may also be a matter of stimulating the nervous system or activating the body to heal itself. Despite our lack of a thorough scientific understanding, we do know that acupuncture works!

There have been numerous scientific studies to indicate patients with various conditions show improvement when acupuncture treatments are initiated. A famous 2012 study endorsed by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) focused on back and neck pain, arthritis, shoulder pain, and chronic headaches—and found acupuncture had a measurable positive effect. It is so well accepted by modern mainstream medicine that it was accepted by the FDA way back in 1996, practitioners must go through a licensing process, and many insurers cover it.

Even though medical science doesn’t fully understand the mechanisms by which acupuncture improves some conditions, we’re certain someone will solve the mystery one day. Doctors began recommending aspirin and garlic for heart health long before we understood their effects. Acupuncture is similar. Given its measurable successes, if Dr. Doyle recommends acupuncture, we really hope you will try it, at least once!

How an Acupuncture Session Works

Acupuncture needles are very thin, and do not fully puncture the epidermis. They are only inserted into the top layer of the skin, and many people do not even register the sensation if they are not watching the process.

If Dr. Doyle recommends acupuncture, he will explain the purpose and process for your customized treatment. During the session, you will be given a gown to change into if necessary, and will be asked to sit or lie down so he can access the musculoskeletal points that will benefit from the treatment. He will insert the needles, and may manipulate them by twisting, or applying heat or gentle electrical pulses. The session usually lasts about 15-20 minutes at most. Some patients feel a noticeable positive effect right away, while others experience a gradual change, in conjunction with other treatments.

Dr. Doyle is a licensed and qualified practitioner who has helped thousands of patients end their pain and enjoy their lives again. For Keller, TX chiropractic and acupuncture, call us at 817-767-5430 to make an appointment.

How to Have a Better Quality of Life with Degenerative Arthritis

Posted on 08.10.17 |

hands with degenerative arthritisDegenerative arthritis, better known as osteoarthritis, affects approximately 27 million American adults who are over the age of 25 years old. It is also the leading form of arthritis in the United States. As you age, your chances for developing arthritis increase dramatically. If you suffer from this joint condition, then you’re familiar with the symptoms: stiffness, mild swelling, pain when moving, and limited range of motion.

Arthritic patients often experience a decrease in quality of life due to the limitations placed on them. For most patients, arthritis pain increases throughout the day, which makes evening outings uncomfortable and sometimes impossible. Dr. Cody Doyle in Roanoke, TX uses a holistic approach to managing arthritis pain. He restores your quality of life by manipulating the musculoskeletal system in the body through acupuncture.

To learn more about how Dr. Doyle uses acupuncture to manage arthritis pain, call 817-767-5430 to schedule your appointment in Roanoke, TX today.

Degenerative Arthritis and Acupuncture

Acupuncture is derived from Chinese culture and designed to open blocked meridian channels. According to the Chinese, the body has roughly 20 invisible channels (meridian channels). There are approximately 2,000 acupuncture points that are connected to various sections of these channels. Qi, the body’s natural energy flow, moves throughout the meridian channels. When the channels become blocked, energy builds up at that blocked spot and results in pain and/or illness.

Dr. Doyle inserts specialized acupuncture needles into various points in the body to open the blocked channels. Endorphins are released when the needles make contact with the blocked channels and naturally fight painful sensations in the body. Quality of life improves when pain is properly managed.

By holistically manipulating the musculoskeletal system, Dr. Doyle stimulates neurotransmitters, such as cortisol and endorphins, which reduces inflammation and aids arthritic pain felt in stiff joints. Unlike NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), there are no side effects with acupuncture treatment. Some patients feel that this nonsurgical treatment is ineffective, however there is limited, yet promising, research about the significant effects of acupuncture and degenerative arthritis.

At-Home Pain Management

Along with acupuncture care with Dr. Doyle, there are changes that can be made at home to manage degenerative arthritis pain. After receiving treatment with Dr. Doyle, you can begin to make small changes to improve your quality of life.

Get Moving

Although arthritic patients experience stiffness and pain, it’s important to stay active. Degenerative arthritis causes pain when you attempt to move, however once you make the movement, the pain stops. Dr. Doyle encourages his arthritis patients to participate in physical activities, such as taking a short walk in the morning when pain is less severe. If you’re a fan of the water, you could do a few laps in the local pool to get your joints moving. Regular exercise has also been shown to reduce stress, a key contributor to inflammation in the body. Exercising not only reduces the side effects of arthritis, but can promote healthy bones, strong muscles, and mental clarity.

You Are What You Eat

A great way to promote a healthy body and happy joints is to eat anti-inflammatory foods, such as:

  • Yogurt
  • Fresh vegetables
  • Fresh fruits
  • Green tea
  • Cook with oregano, basil, or ginger

Is Hip Pain Keeping You Down?

Posted on 06.14.17 |

hip pain illustrationPain anywhere in the body can disrupt daily life. Hip pain in particular can keep you in bed or on the sofa, because walking is uncomfortable – or even impossible. Chiropractic and acupuncture treatments are non-narcotic, non-invasive, natural therapies, and research has shown that both can be highly effective for treating hip pain. Dr. Cody Doyle, a Roanoke Tx chiropractor and acupuncture provider will work with you to reduce or eliminate hip pain and improve your quality of life.

Are you wondering, “Is there a chiropractor near me?” Dr. Doyle’s office is conveniently located across from Hawaiian Falls on Byron Nelson Parkway, in Roanoke, Tx 76262. He serves patients from Trophy Club, Southlake, Keller, Grapevine, and surrounding communities. Dr. Doyle previously practiced in North Richland Hills (NRH). Call us at 817-767-5430 to schedule your new patient consultation today, and learn how chiropractic and acupuncture can help with pain relief!

About Hip Pain

Our hips are the largest joints in the body, and they’re classified as ball in socket joints. When the hip hurts, the pain can be from the joint, bones, cushioning discs, ligaments, muscles, or nerves around the hip joint.

Most people feel hip pain on the inner, upper part of the leg or in the groin, but it can radiate to the knee, thigh, and front of the upper leg. A hernia in the groin may send radiating pain to the hips. In some cases, the pain is felt on the outer hip and in the glutes.

The SI joints, or sacroiliac joints, are located below the lumbar spine, and in some cases, SI pain can be confused with hip pain. Dr. Doyle can determine where your discomfort is actually located, to maximize the effectiveness of your treatment plan.

If your hip pain worsens with activity, arthritis may be the cause, and many types of arthritis that can develop in the hips. The most common reasons a person develops hip pain are arthritis, sciatica, fractures, bursitis (inflammation in the sac outside the hip) or tendinitis, or issues such as hernia, gynecological problems, or radiating back pain. Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve is damaged or stressed, and it causes pain to radiate to the low back, hips, and legs. Chiropractic care can often resolve sciatica pain and, in some cases, replace the need for surgical treatment.

Treatment Options

If hip pain is sudden, you cannot put weight on the hip, or you cannot move your leg, it’s time to see your doctor. Treatment by a medical doctor will be based upon the underlying cause of the hip pain.

People usually reach for over-the-counter pain medication, or NSAIDs, such as Tylenol, Motrin, Advil, or Nuprin, for pain relief. While these drugs work well, over use of NSAIDs can cause serious damage to the liver, kidneys, and digestive system. NSAIDs can contribute to headaches, dizziness, high blood pressure, ringing in the ears, and leg swelling. People who take NSAIDs regularly may bleed more heavily than others. In light of the side effects, ingesting these drugs too often or for too long is not recommended.

If you know why you have hip pain, and you’re going to have to endure the discomfort long-term, or the pain is a result of improper musculoskeletal alignment or inflammation, chiropractic and/or acupuncture treatments may help reduce your pain. In some cases, Dr. Doyle can eliminate hip pain.

How Chiropractic and Acupuncture Can Help

In 2010, a study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics found that nine or more chiropractic treatments reduced arthritis symptoms in four out of five patients with hip pain. Arthritis comes with inflammation, and both chiropractic and acupuncture can reduce or relieve inflammation. Injury, illness, and over use of the hip joint may also cause inflammation.

For bone injuries, such as fractures and breaks, chiropractic and acupuncture can speed the healing process by reducing inflammation, increasing blood flow, and prompting the release of endorphins (nature’s pain killers).

Your Visit in our Roanoke Chiropractor and Acupuncture Office

At your appointment, Dr. Doyle will schedule sufficient time to sit down with you in his office, where the two of you can discuss your pain and concerns. He’ll talk with you about your diagnosis, medications, treatments you’ve tried, and what you can expect from chiropractic and/or acupuncture sessions. Dr. Doyle will then examine your skeletal alignment and locate areas of pain and inflammation. He’ll create a treatment plan and explain what it entails.

Is Inflammation Causing Your Joint Pain?

Posted on 06.6.17 |

older woman has joint pain in elbowJoint pain can be an irritation and can make completing daily tasks difficult. Inflammation is a common cause of such joint pain. This response is your body’s way of protecting itself when an injury or overuse occurs, but as we age inflammation may cause more pain than we’d like. You can tell if inflammation is the cause because your joints will feel warm to the touch and appear red and swollen. Dr. Cody Doyle in Roanoke, TX has a variety of non-invasive treatment methods for common joint pain. By using chiropractic, acupuncture, and other treatments, he can alleviate your pain and make recommendations on how to reduce future pain.

Is joint pain inhibiting your ability to live life to the fullest? Schedule your appointment with Roanoke, TX chiropractor Dr. Doyle today to put an end to your joint pain. Call 817-767-5430.

Inflammation is your immune system’s response to a foreign stimulus. When an unknown stimulus could cause harm, your body creates inflammation in that region as a way to protect itself. Here are three common forms of inflammation that can lead to irritating joint pain.

Inflammatory Arthritis

Arthritis can easily be defined as inflammation of joints. When the white blood cells found in synovial fluid (joint fluid) become inflamed, the protective membrane surrounding your joints can thicken. This thickening damages the cartilage between joints and results in joint pain. This can also cause your joints to lose their shape and misalign. Although the exact cause of inflammatory arthritis is unknown, poor nutrition, genetics, and stress have all been linked to this condition. The most common form of inflammatory arthritis is rheumatoid arthritis. .

Osteoarthritis

Throughout your life, your body will feel the effects of normal wear and tear. The simple routines of life put our bodies through a lot, and over time this can result in osteoarthritis. Cartilage cushions our joints; when it begins to deteriorate, you will experience a feeling of stiffness in your joints. The degeneration of cartilage between your joints can eventually lead to bones rubbing against one another, causing a painful response.

Leaky Gut Syndrome

Another name for this medical disorder is intestinal permeability. Leaky gut syndrome is the result of damage to the lining of the small intestine, causing undigested food, toxins, and bacteria to leak into the blood stream. This can cause a slew of painful symptoms, one of which is joint pain. Joint pain may seem to be unrelated to digestion, but has been linked to inflammation and rheumatoid arthritis, so it’s worth considering as a possible source.

Dr. Doyle’s Non-Invasive Approach

Roanoke, TX chiropractor Dr. Doyle uses a variety of non-invasive treatment methods to manage joint pain. A common method that he will use is myofascial release therapy, which among many other things improves your joint’s range of motion and flexibility. During this therapy, Dr. Doyle will apply pressure to various connective tissues and muscles in your body.

Along with myofascial release, Dr. Doyle will incorporate chiropractic care, acupuncture, and deep muscle stretching. Chiropractic care uses musculoskeletal manipulation to relieve pain and tension found within the body. Acupuncture redirects energy within the body for pain relief and management. These non-invasive approaches will manage your joint pain and alleviate pain in other areas of your body.

Don’t go another day with joint pain; schedule your chiropractic appointment with Roanoke, TX chiropractor Dr. Doyle today to non-invasively manage your pain. Call 817-767-5430.

How Ankle Pain Affects Daily Life

Posted on 05.29.17 |

Male runner with blue shoes and ankle painPain in any area of your body can elicit irritation and frustration. Ankle pain commonly results from a sprain, but can appear for a number of other reasons. In some cases, it may be hard to determine what is causing your ankle pain. Many people use pain relievers, such as Tylenol or Advil, to manage their bodily aches and pains. Dr. Cody Doyle, in Roanoke, TX offers chiropractic and acupuncture treatment for those who can’t effectively manage their ankle pain solely with medications and braces, or for those who wish to take a holistic approach to pain relief.

Leave the medications behind and learn how to manage your ankle pain with help from Dr. Doyle. Schedule your chiropractic or acupuncture appointment in our Roanoke, TX office today. Call 817-767-5430.

Ankle Pain

Common sprains are a typical cause for ankle pain. However, the pain can also result from plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, tendonitis, shin splints, and Fibromyalgia, among other conditions. Ankle pain also occurs from wearing shoes that don’t properly fit and from disorders related to the hips, feet, and knees. All of your lower extremities (hips, knees, shins, ankles, feet) are connected; therefore, untreated discomfort in one extremity could lead to pain in another. Dr. Doyle holistically treats ankle pain with chiropractic care. He also offers musculoskeletal acupuncture for pain relief.

Tendonitis

Ankle pain can appear when a tendon becomes inflamed. Usually, when referring to ankle pain, it’s the Achilles tendon. This is the tendon that connects your calf muscle to your heel. Inflammation can create irritation, soreness, and even swelling. When left untreated, Achilles tendonitis can result in a great deal of ankle pain.

Shin Splints, Plantar Fasciitis, and Heel Spurs

These conditions may seem unrelated to your ankles, but because your shins, feet, and heel are all part of your lower extremity, issues that begin there can lead to ankle pain. Shin splints usually cause aches in the shins, but that pain can radiate or worsen to cause aching ankles and feet. The presence of plantar fasciitis causes discomfort in the heel. When plantar fasciitis is left untreated, heel spurs may develop. These bony growths appear on the heel bone and can be incredibly painful. The pain can radiate to the ankles.

Arthritis

Arthritis is another common source of ankle pain. Stiffness in the joints can flare up when the weather changes. As we age, many of us develop arthritis in different parts of our bodies. Ankle arthritis can make your ankles feel stiff, and you may find walking painful.

How Can Dr. Doyle Help?

Dr. Doyle provides chiropractic care and acupuncture to his patients. These are both holistic methods for managing pain throughout the body. By manipulating your spinal alignment, Dr. Doyle can alleviate many common aches and pains. At your appointment, he will conduct a thorough evaluation of your pain, as well as review your medical history. From his findings, he can often determine the cause of ankle pain. Tell Dr. Doyle about any injuries, overuse, or regular activities that could irritate your ankle(s).

Dr. Doyle will create a personalized treatment plan to address your ankle pain. He may also make recommendations on how to better care for your body and reduce your risk for experiencing ongoing pain. When you leave the office, you’ll know whether to apply heat or ice, and whether you need a brace or wrap. Should you have any questions, please ask – and if questions come up after your visit, simply call the office.

The benefits of chiropractic care and acupuncture go far beyond relieving back and neck pain. Schedule your appointment with Dr. Doyle today at our Roanoke, TX office to discuss how he can help you find relief from ankle pain. Call 817-767-5430.

A Holistic Approach to Managing Your Wrist Pain

Posted on 05.5.17 |

Roanoke wrist painAre you searching for a holistic approach to manage your irritating wrist pain? Overuse of non-steroidal inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can lead to serious medical issues, like stomach bleeding and increased risk of heart and/or renal failure. These drugs, such as Motrin, Advil, and Aleve, can temporarily alleviate our wrist pain, but long-term use has been linked to causing more harm than good. Managing your pain holistically with acupuncture and chiropractic treatments is a great alternative and is better for your body in the long run.

Call Cody Doyle in Roanoke, TX at 817-767-5430 to discuss your holistic treatment options today.

What causes wrist pain?

Wrist pain can arise because of an old or a new injury—maybe it’s that old baseball injury that you never really got over? We can also cause ourselves to experience pain when we overuse our wrists, such as when we spend all day at a desk job. In a technology-focused world, more of us are spending our days typing away on the computer, forgetting the effects it may have on our bodies.

Rheumatoid arthritis, or inflammatory arthritis, is another reason we might experience wrist pain. Arthritis is an autoimmune disease that affects roughly 2 million Americans, and causes inflammation of joints and tissues. It can sometimes cause the joints in your wrists to feel warm to the touch. Arthritis can also restrict your normal range of motion, limiting your wrist mobility. We can develop this disease for many reasons, including genetic and environmental factors.

Tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome can also cause wrist pain. Carpal tunnel syndrome results from excessive pressure being exerted on your wrist and median nerve. The median nerve runs from the shoulder all the way down to the wrist. When this nerve has too much pressure applied to it, it can be painful.

How to Manage Wrist Pain

There are ways to reduce your risk of experiencing wrist pain. You can take breaks throughout your workday, if you spend your day typing. Make an effort to relax your wrists and use a different range of motions during these breaks. You can also increase your water intake, which will keep your arm’s moving parts well hydrated. Another method for reducing your risk of wrist pain is to apply ice to your wrists whenever you experience any pain. However, if these recommendations don’t cut it for you and your wrist pain, maybe it’s time to give acupuncture and chiropractic treatments a try. Acupuncture and chiropractic techniques are two great resources for holistically reducing your wrist pain. Rather than managing your pain with medication, these non-surgical, drug free techniques focus on fixing what’s wrong in the mechanics of your body.

What is acupuncture?

Most Americans have probably never considered seeking out acupuncture care. However, this traditional Chinese practice is becoming increasingly popular to manage a wide variety of medical conditions, including wrist pain. Acupuncture is a great way to increase energy levels, while simultaneously increasing nourishing blood flow to overtaxed nerves, tissues and joints.. Dr. Doyle will strategically insert stainless-steel needles into your body, to stimulate the inflamed tissues and nerves causing your wrist pain.

 What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic care realigns the vertebrae in your spine that can lead to arthritis and other disorders like anxiety or inflammation, when they are misaligned. Dr. Doyle will create a personalized pain management plan that releases tension and will help to ease your wrist pain. Along with spinal realignment, Dr. Doyle can teach you some exercises to do at home to help manage your wrist pain, as well as recommend dietary changes that may lead to less inflammation.

Contact Dr. Doyle, in Roanoke, TX today to schedule your appointment to reduce and even eliminate your wrist pain. Call 817-767-5430 today!

Top 5 Questions About Acupuncture

Posted on 04.6.17 |

acupuncture needlesDid you know that acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to relieve symptoms of painful medical conditions–and even as a form of surgical anesthesia? The practice began in Asia, but has spread to the rest of the world as more patients find value in its use. The western world has only been studying acupuncture for approximately 45 years, however, so don’t be surprised if all doctors aren’t quick to tout its value.

Dr. Cody Doyle has spent the past 20 years studying acupuncture, as one of many alternative therapies. In many cases, it is an effective treatment that helps patients deal with problems that conventional western medicine has failed to cure. Here are five of the top questions Dr. Doyle is often asked about acupuncture.

Are you exhausted with doctors’ failure to relieve your symptoms? Contact Doyle Chiropractic and Acupuncture online today to learn what we can do for your symptoms. To reach our Roanoke, TX office, call (817) 767-5430. Patients in La Grange, TX may call (979) 968-6400. Roanoke acupuncture and alternative therapies may help you find relief!

What does it treat?

Acupuncture is an excellent complement to western medicine and other alternative therapies. When you meet Dr. Doyle, he will assess your symptoms and determine the best combination of drug-free nonsurgical treatments. These may include chiropractic treatments, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and/or others. In addition to chronic pain, Dr. Doyle’s treatments can also address tingling, numbness, nerve pain, and other conditions.

With over twenty years of experience in the field, Dr. Doyle has helped scores of patients manage symptoms of:

  • disc problems
  • degenerative and inflammatory arthritis
  • lower back pain, neck pain, and middle back pain
  • peripheral neuropathy
  • plantar fasciitis
  • upper and lower extremity conditions (e.g., tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, shoulder problems; and hip, knee and ankle mobility issues)
  • seasonal allergies
  • obesity

When one aspect of your health is misaligned, it can affect many other parts of your body. Dr. Doyle is often able to help patients manage multiple conditions in single treatment plan of combined therapy. Read more about the conditions Dr. Doyle has treated here.

How does it work?

If you know nothing else, you probably know that acupuncture involves needles! These tiny, sterile needles bloodlessly pierce the uppermost layers of skin, at various parts of the body. After Dr. Doyle has inserted the needles at strategic points, you will rest comfortably for a short period of time to complete the session.

Western science doesn’t fully understand the functions by which acupuncture works, but the countless patients who’ve benefited from it will testify that it does work! Acupuncture tends to work best as a complement to other therapies, and its pain relieving qualities are maximized with long-term treatment. In fact, more medical insurers are covering acupuncture than in the past, especially when it is part of a combined approach to pain relief or anesthesia.

Does it hurt?

In the hands of an expert practitioner, acupuncture will never cause you any pain or discomfort. Many of our patients do not even notice when a needle is being placed.

Will my insurance cover it?

Unfortunately, most insurers do not cover acupuncture therapy. However, in the complex world of chronic pain relief, more and more insurers are becoming open to drug-free treatment options. If you have a condition that persists, despite a full regimen of standard medical interventions, call your insurer and ask if they have policies in place for patients like you.

If you are on a tight budget and will receive no assistance from your medical insurer, tell Dr. Doyle about your situation and he may be able to offer a payment plan. At Doyle Chiropractic and Acupuncture, we don’t want to see anyone suffer needlessly, when potential treatments may help your condition.

Are you exhausted with doctors’ failure to relieve your symptoms? Contact Doyle Chiropractic and Acupuncture online today to learn what we can do for your symptoms.
