5 Signs You Should Give Chiropractic a Try

Posted on 04.4.18 |

woman receiving chiropractic treatmentAre you in pain? Whether it’s in your neck, back, shoulder, leg, arm, or other location—there’s always the possibility you might benefit from chiropractic care. There’s a common misperception that chiropractic therapy only treats back problems, but that’s far from the truth!

Chiropractic adjustments have proven an effective treatment for the pain associated with many medical conditions. Trophy Club chiropractor Dr. Cody Doyle has successfully treated patients suffering from: back and neck conditions, sciatica, plantar fasciitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, peripheral neuropathy, bursitis, tendonitis, and even allergies!

The human spine is the steering wheel and central nerve pathway for the whole body. Any dysfunction in the musculoskeletal movement of the spine can have far-reaching consequences. If you are in pain and are experiencing any of the follow symptoms—it might be time to try a chiropractor!

1. Your Pain is Constant or Spreading

No one should feel they have to live with constant or ongoing pain. An injury that can’t seem to heal, despite following a doctor’s advice, may be a sign you need to seek out a different type of treatment. If your pain seems to be spreading, can also be a sign of improper spinal alignment. If your pain started only in your neck, for example, but now includes numbness or tingling in your wrists or extremities, there’s a good chance they are connected. Pain that doesn’t go away on its own should always be considered a serious situation, no matter what the history or age of the patient.

2. You are Getting Headaches

Migraines and “stress headaches” are often caused by problems in the back and neck. If you’ve noticed more headaches coinciding with the onset of your pain, they may be connected. Both your body and head pain may be treatable with proper spinal alignment.

3. Low Energy Levels/Poor Sleep

There are many ways that injury and dysfunction can deprive you of energy: poor adrenal function, insomnia, an overstressed nervous system. Many patients report feeling better rested and getting their energy back with proper realignment of the spine.

4. You’re Always Sick

Allergies, sinus congestion, and immune function can be improved with proper nervous system function and mechanical balance in the body. Every system in the body is affected by the spinal pathway and that includes the immune system! For example, spinal misalignments and subluxations (compressed nerve pathways) can cause neural dysfunctions that weaken your immune response.

5. Constant Use of Painkillers

If you are in so much pain that you are taking pain medication several times a day, this is not normal! If you feel that you can’t function and get through the day without taking the maximum recommended dosage of ibuprofen or naproxen, for example, you need try something new!

Tired of Taking Pills? Treat the Cause of Your Pain

Posted on 01.19.18 |

pain managementAre you sick of endless doctor appointments and prescriptions that haven’t successfully treated your pain? Conventional medical approaches can often identify the causes of pain but they don’t always fix the problem. If your approach to pain management has been dependent on prescriptions, you may be missing out on other potential therapies.

Call Doyle Chiropractic and Acupuncture at 817-767-5430 to see if alternative therapies can help reduce your pain.

If your medical condition has gone on for too long with little improvement, it may be time to try chiropractic care to reboot and realign the mechanical processes of your body. Whether your condition stems from an injury, overuse, or degeneration, chiropractic care may be able to correct the biomechanical problems that keep your body from healing and functioning properly.

A lot of people mistakenly believe that chiropractic care is only for back and neck conditions, but the truth is that it can help a number of conditions you may not be aware of.

Using chiropractic adjustments and complementary therapies, Dr. Cody Doyle has successfully treated patients suffering from:

  • Arthritis
  • Sciatica and bursitis
  • Tendonitis and shin splints
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Shoulder and knee problems
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Peripheral neuropathy
  • Migraines and headaches

Chiropractic Treats More Than Back and Neck Pain

If you are not familiar with chiropractic you may be wondering, how does it work? How can spinal adjustments treat symptoms that may occur in the foot, for example? All movement and function in the human body flows through the spine. All nerve functions flow through the spinal cord, as do all messages and impulses from the brain to the body. Misalignment of the vertebrae can lead to musculoskeletal or nerve dysfunction that may be felt in any part of the body. Correcting your back and neck alignment can improve your whole body’s efficiency in movement and function.

5 Foods to Avoid if You Have Inflammation

Posted on 12.29.17 |

young woman deciding between healthy and unhealthy foods

Inflammation is the body’s way of fighting off infection. When it is acute, the inflammation starts and ends quickly in a matter of days. But when it is chronic, it can last for months and cause harm to the body. Chronic inflammation can exacerbate a number of conditions, including arthritis, high blood pressure, diabetes, and asthma. It may even be the culprit of your chronic pain and joint swelling.

While certain medications can help control inflammation in the body, if you are looking for a drug-free approach, you may want to consider looking into alternative and holistic therapies. Keller chiropractor Dr. Doyle offers a variety of treatments, including acupuncture and chiropractic care.

In addition to these musculoskeletal treatments, Dr. Doyle also offers detoxification programs and nutritional therapies to help the body heal itself. It is quite possible that what you are putting into your body is causing greater harm than good. Dr. Doyle discusses certain foods to avoid when facing chronic inflammation and the anti-inflammatory foods to add in to combat it. To book your consultation, please contact our office online or call (817) 767-5430.

Sugar

Processed sugars are considered empty calories void of any nutritional value. They can also spike your blood sugar levels and trigger cytokines, inflammatory messengers known for suppressing white blood cells. Not only does this lead to increased inflammation and weight gain, but you may find yourself more prone to sickness. Try sweetening your foods with natural foods, such as honey and maple syrup.

Vegetable Oils

Vegetable oils, such as soy, corn, safflower, sunflower, and palm oil, are high in omega-6 (inflammatory fat) and low in omega-3 (anti-inflammatory fat). Before eating out at your favorite restaurant, be sure and take a look at what your food is being cooked in. At home, stock your pantry with healthier oils, such as coconut oil, avocado oil, or extra virgin olive oil.

Refined Carbohydrates

White flour, white rice, and gluten have all been linked to increased inflammation. Take a look in your pantry. Do you have processed cereals, chips, or crackers inside? Do you frequently opt for fries instead of salad? By making a few tweaks in your daily routine, you can lower the inflammation in your body. Instead of eating a bowl of cereal for breakfast, try eating scrambled eggs and a side of berries. Swap those fries for a salad at lunch, and grab an apple the next time you get hit with the afternoon cravings.

Dairy

Dairy can disrupt your gut microbiome, decrease the healthy bacteria, and increase inflammation in the body. A healthy guy is needed for controlling inflammation in the body. Dairy is also a common allergen. Research has shown that roughly one in four adults have difficulty digesting it. If you notice increased asthma symptoms, bloating, gas, or stomach pains after eating cheese or drinking milk, you may want to consider eliminating it from your diet for a few weeks to see if it is the source of your problems. Try adding in goat’s milk, coconut milk, or plain Greek yogurt instead.

Alcohol

Frequent consumption of alcohol has been associated with cancer, heart disease, stroke, and digestive issues. It can also cause inflammation in your gut, joints, tissues, liver, and blood vessels. But good news: one to two glasses of organic red wine a day has been known to help improve inflammation. However, if you notice heightened symptoms after consuming it, best to avoid it all together.

Young woman receiving pain management chiropractic adjustment.

Do you wake up daily with lower back pain? Do you experience numbness and tingling in your extremities? Do have difficulty performing basic daily tasks on account of intense pain? Whether your pain is chronic or acute, Dr. Cody Doyle offers solutions to help patients take back control of their life. He is both certified in both acupuncture and chiropractic. Commonly referred to as alternative therapy, chiropractic care and acupuncture treatments provide a drug-free, nonsurgical approach to managing pain and achieving total wellness. He is both certified in both acupuncture and chiropractic. To learn more about our pain management solutions, continue reading. You can also schedule a consultation with our Roanoke, TX office by contacting us online or calling 817-767-5430.

What Is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is a holistic and nonsurgical approach to helping the body heal using spinal manipulation. The spine surrounds your spinal cord and central nervous system, which is responsible for sending messages to your brain telling every muscle and organ in your body how to function. When the vertebrae within your spine are out of alignment, it can lead to pain and difficulty performing basic daily activities, such as bending, sitting, and walking. Spinal subluxations can also result in allergies, weight gain, fatigue, and stress and anxiety.

Dr. Doyle believes in locating the root cause of your pain and treating it so you can get back to enjoying life. This will involve performing x-rays of the spine and any other extremities causing you pain. During your appointment, Dr. Doyle will have you lie face down on a padded table so he can gently and effectively adjust your spine. He uses a variety of hands-on and mechanical manipulations using several different methods to correct the alignment of your spine. With routine chiropractic care, your body can naturally heal itself and restore total wellness.

How Acupuncture Can Help

Proper energy flow within your body is essential for optimal physical health. When this energy flow is disrupted, it can lead to pain and other issues. Along the surface of your skin are strategic acu-points that can be stimulated to correct energy flow. Acupuncture is an alternative procedure based in traditional Chinese medicine that helps the body naturally heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. This holistic method uses small, stainless steel needles inserted into the skin’s surface to stimulate the underlying nerves and tissues within your musculoskeletal system to address chronic and acute pain, such as:

  • Migraines and headaches
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Neck and back pain
  • Upper and lower extremity pain
  • TMJ disorder

If you have lower back pain, Dr. Doyle may insert acupuncture needles in the acu-points along your lower back to reduce pain and increase proper energy flow. Acupuncture and chiropractic care are often used together to maximize results.

Dr. Doyle performs acupuncture to improve dysfunction within the musculoskeletal system of the body. While placing needles in the acu-points in the musculoskeletal system can have numerous non-musculoskeletal systemic benefits, Dr. Doyle does not directly treat any condition that does not have at it’s core a musculoskeletal component. Instead, he treats only those dysfunctional points within the musculoskeletal system that he identifies after a thorough history and examination. If treating a musculoskeletal acupuncture point produces a non-musculoskeletal benefit, that benefit is purely incidental.

Healthy Tips for Pain Management

Posted on 11.30.17 |

Keller chiropractor can reduce pain.

Pain comes in a variety of ways. It may be a dull ache, sharp shooting, radiating, chronic, or acute. No matter the level, it is uncomfortable and can negatively affect your quality of life. But depending on the severity, it may even be debilitating and keep you from performing basic daily tasks. Have you recently been injured in an accident at work, home, or on the road and are experiencing ongoing pain? Did you overwork a muscle at the gym but haven’t been able to get back to normal? Or perhaps there’s no rhyme or reason to your pain, you just know it started and it’s keeping you from enjoying a happy and fulfilling life.

Whatever the reason, you don’t have to live in pain for forever. Keller chiropractor Dr. Doyle offers a variety of alternative treatment methods at his practice to help patients manage their pain. He also discusses certain tips below to get you back to a healthier and pain-free lifestyle. Continue reading to find out more. We also invite you to schedule a consultation by calling (817) 767-5430 or contacting us online.

Reduce Stress

Stress can actually exacerbate pain because it increases the level of inflammation in your body. If you have a high stress job or hectic lifestyle, stop and assess your situation and see where you can cut back on stress in your life. You may also start implementing meditation or deep breathing exercises to help you relax and control stressful situations.

Boost Endorphins

Endorphins are chemicals in the brain that are instant mood boosters. But they can also block pain signals. How do you get them? Exercise. Even the lightest physical activity can release endorphins into the body. Not only will you start to feel better emotionally by exercising, but as the muscles strengthen, pain will start to reduce. Strong muscles can help prevent re-injury and additional pain. If your weight plays a role in your pain, exercise can also help you lose excess weight, as well as control blood sugar levels and reduce risk of heart disease. Ask your Keller chiropractor for an exercise routine that is right for you.

Try Acupuncture

Founded in traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture stimulates the nerves, muscles, and tissues in your body to address neck and back pain, extremity pain, and other musculoskeletal conditions. Your body is intended to function with certain energy patterns to function effectively. When these energy patterns are disrupted, it can result in pain, disease, and inflammation. Your body also has musculoskeletal acu-points along the surface of the skin. To help correct the disrupted energy flow, Keller chiropractor Dr. Doyle will strategically insert sterilized stainless steel needles in varying lengths into these acu-points to stimulate the underlying tissues and muscles.

It is important to note that Dr. Doyle is not directly treating any specific condition with acupuncture, but treating dysfunction in very specific points within your musculoskeletal system. Treating theses dysfunctional musculoskeletal points has been shown to have a wide range of health benefits, including pain management.

Undergo Routine Chiropractic Adjustments

Your spine hosts your central nervous system, which is responsible for sending messages from your brain to other organs in the body. When the vertebrae in your neck and back are out of alignment, it can cause mixed signals, resulting in pain, inflammation, and disease. By keeping your spine in proper position, you can reduce pain. It’s really quite simple: A healthy spine equals a healthy body. Keller chiropractor Dr. Doyle will fashion a treatment plan unique to your needs.

Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

What you consume can affect your body’s ability to function. Filling it with wholesome foods gives it better fuel for functioning properly. But a healthy lifestyle doesn’t just mean eating healthy foods. It also means reducing alcohol consumption and avoiding smoking as both of these can exacerbate pain in the body.

Get a Massage

Getting a massage has double benefits. Not only will it help you reduce stress and relax – but it can also alleviate tight muscles often associated with chronic pain. People who receive a massage once a month have statistically been shown to have better health physically, emotionally, and mentally.

Common Ways to Wreck Your Back

Posted on 11.19.17 |

Keller pain mangementBack pain may seem inevitable, especially if you have a preexisting condition or family history of back problems. Many consider it a normal part of their daily life and have grown accustomed to adjusting their life and activities as needed. However, you may have more control than you think to eliminating back pain and improving your quality of life.

There are certain bad habits and techniques, such as a weak core and poor posture that could make your back vulnerable to injury. By making a few simple adjustments and visiting your local Keller pain management chiropractor, you could get back to enjoying life as you knew it before back pain.

Please read on to learn the common ways to wreck your back and the simple tips to implement to keep injury from occurring. If you are interested in scheduling a consultation with a Keller pain management professional, please contact Doyle Chiropractic & Acupuncture today online or by calling 817-767-5430.

Poor Posture

Sitting at your desk or in your car for long periods of time with shoulders hunched over, or your neck bent over a computer screen can do serious long-term damage to the natural curvature of your spine. Although your job may involve a lengthy commute and long days at the office, it’s important to practice good posture and proper ergonomics when sitting to help your spine stay healthy. Every 20 minutes, change your position, or get up and walk around and stretch your body.

The discs between your vertebrae are spongy and filled with fluid, specifically designed to cushion your spine during activity. However, when you are immobile for prolonged periods, the fluid in your disc drains and increases your risk for injury. Discs in your spine rely on motion to keep the fluid properly functioning.

Improper Exercise Techniques

Although exercise is good for your body and emotional health, if you are lifting weights or performing exercises incorrectly, it can wreck your back. If something hurts out of the ordinary while you are working out, stop and make the necessary adjustments. It may be beneficial to have a spotter at the gym to make sure you are lined up correctly so you don’t cause severe injury. Even low impact exercises, such as yoga can cause injury if you do not have your spine lined up correctly. While it may not hurt initially, if performed incorrectly, you will slowly cause problems. Working out in front of mirror will help you make the necessary adjustments to avoid injuring yourself. Focusing on building up your core strength and keeping it engaged during activity will also help alleviate the pressure on back.

Lifting Incorrectly

Many people lift objects or bend over incorrectly and unknowingly cause stress to their backs. If your job requires strenuous lifting or activity, there are a few tips to follow to keep your back healthy:

  • Do not lift or move something that weighs 20 percent more than you.
  • Keep your back straight and bend with your knees, not at your waist.
  • Hold the heavy object close to you and not away from you.
  • Do not hold the object lower than your knees or higher than your armpits.
  • When lifting, do not twist or turn your back – keep the object and your feet always pointing in the same direction.

Don’t Ignore Back Pain

If you are currently experiencing back pain and need pain relievers to make it through the day, it may be time to consider meeting with a Keller pain management professional to find the root of the issue. Dr. Doyle provides chiropractic care, acupuncture, physical therapy, and other techniques to address back pain and improve the health of your spine.

How to Have a Better Quality of Life with Degenerative Arthritis

Posted on 08.10.17 |

hands with degenerative arthritisDegenerative arthritis, better known as osteoarthritis, affects approximately 27 million American adults who are over the age of 25 years old. It is also the leading form of arthritis in the United States. As you age, your chances for developing arthritis increase dramatically. If you suffer from this joint condition, then you’re familiar with the symptoms: stiffness, mild swelling, pain when moving, and limited range of motion.

Arthritic patients often experience a decrease in quality of life due to the limitations placed on them. For most patients, arthritis pain increases throughout the day, which makes evening outings uncomfortable and sometimes impossible. Dr. Cody Doyle in Roanoke, TX uses a holistic approach to managing arthritis pain. He restores your quality of life by manipulating the musculoskeletal system in the body through acupuncture.

To learn more about how Dr. Doyle uses acupuncture to manage arthritis pain, call 817-767-5430 to schedule your appointment in Roanoke, TX today.

Degenerative Arthritis and Acupuncture

Acupuncture is derived from Chinese culture and designed to open blocked meridian channels. According to the Chinese, the body has roughly 20 invisible channels (meridian channels). There are approximately 2,000 acupuncture points that are connected to various sections of these channels. Qi, the body’s natural energy flow, moves throughout the meridian channels. When the channels become blocked, energy builds up at that blocked spot and results in pain and/or illness.

Dr. Doyle inserts specialized acupuncture needles into various points in the body to open the blocked channels. Endorphins are released when the needles make contact with the blocked channels and naturally fight painful sensations in the body. Quality of life improves when pain is properly managed.

By holistically manipulating the musculoskeletal system, Dr. Doyle stimulates neurotransmitters, such as cortisol and endorphins, which reduces inflammation and aids arthritic pain felt in stiff joints. Unlike NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), there are no side effects with acupuncture treatment. Some patients feel that this nonsurgical treatment is ineffective, however there is limited, yet promising, research about the significant effects of acupuncture and degenerative arthritis.

At-Home Pain Management

Along with acupuncture care with Dr. Doyle, there are changes that can be made at home to manage degenerative arthritis pain. After receiving treatment with Dr. Doyle, you can begin to make small changes to improve your quality of life.

Get Moving

Although arthritic patients experience stiffness and pain, it’s important to stay active. Degenerative arthritis causes pain when you attempt to move, however once you make the movement, the pain stops. Dr. Doyle encourages his arthritis patients to participate in physical activities, such as taking a short walk in the morning when pain is less severe. If you’re a fan of the water, you could do a few laps in the local pool to get your joints moving. Regular exercise has also been shown to reduce stress, a key contributor to inflammation in the body. Exercising not only reduces the side effects of arthritis, but can promote healthy bones, strong muscles, and mental clarity.

You Are What You Eat

A great way to promote a healthy body and happy joints is to eat anti-inflammatory foods, such as:

  • Yogurt
  • Fresh vegetables
  • Fresh fruits
  • Green tea
  • Cook with oregano, basil, or ginger

Dr. Cody Doyle can also teach you how to prevent your knee pain with practical tips for modifying the activities that contribute to this condition.

Never tried chiropractic care? Learn more about how this holistic method can relieve your Roanoke knee pain, as well as leave your entire body feeling more relaxed and pain-free. Schedule your appointment with Dr. Doyle at our Roanoke, TX office today by calling 817-767-5340.

By providing chiropractic care, Dr. Doyle can help you manage your irritating pain, so you can get back to your active daily lifestyle.

Chiropractic Care for Knee Pain

In a world filled with medication, it’s not surprising that most of us seek out this treatment method to manage our bodily pains. Chiropractic care offers an alternative pain management option, without adding harmful chemicals to your body. Dr. Doyle will gently manipulate the alignment of your spine to relieve your aches and pains. Your spine is responsible for more than just maintaining your posture. It also provides an attachment point for your appendages, such as your arms and legs. When your spinal alignment is off, it can cause you to experience pain throughout your entire body—not just in your knees. Dr. Doyle will provide an adjustment by gently realigning the vertebrae in your spine, which in turn will reduce your physical discomfort. With improved spinal alignment, you may notice other small aches and pains disappearing, as well.

What Will Happen at an Appointment?

After conducting a complete physical examination of your body, Dr. Doyle will collect information regarding your medical history. This will give him a better idea of any other factors that may be contributing to your knee pain, as well as give him the opportunity to discover any other pains you may be feeling. Spinal adjustment can benefit your entire body, not just your aching knees. So, be sure to openly discuss any bodily discomfort you experience from time to time. Chiropractic care can improve your overall wellness and help you regain proper function of your body’s mechanics and internal organ systems. When the parts move together optimally, every system in your body functions better.

Stress

Not only can Dr. Doyle treat your bodily pains, but he can also recommend lifestyle changes that could enhance your quality of life. Stress is a common cause of pain in our bodies and in today’s world; we all experience a lot of stress. While some stress is normal, overexposure to untreated stress can cause tension in all areas of our body. This tension causes you to tighten you muscles, which can cause knots and pains in your body. It’s crucial that you communicate with Dr. Doyle about any stress you regularly experience, so we can find ways to mitigate its effects on your body. All of this information will help him create a personalized treatment plan that best benefits your unique aches and pains. After all, if he can treat your knee pain, you may as well reap all of the benefits you can from his treatments!
